The Withered Wasteland is where everything begins in Pokemon Pokopia. It is the first area you set foot in, the place where you learn every core mechanic, and the region with the most Important Requests of any area in the game. Based on Fuchsia City from the original Pokemon games, the Withered Wasteland is a decayed version of what was once a thriving town surrounded by nature. Your job is to bring it back to life.
This area holds 3 of the game’s 10 Important Requests, over a dozen General Requests, 60+ Pokemon species, hidden areas with rare items, and the foundations for every system you will use throughout the rest of the game — building, farming, cooking, crafting, and weather manipulation. If you rush through the Withered Wasteland, you will struggle later. If you take the time to understand everything it teaches you, the other three areas become much more manageable.
Este walkthrough covers the Withered Wasteland from start to finish. If you are brand new to the game, nuestra beginner guide covers the universal basics like inventory management and PP energy before you need them here.
Withered Wasteland Overview
The Withered Wasteland is divided into five main zones:
| Zona | Descripción | Qué Encuentras |
|---|---|---|
| Central Plaza | The ruined town center with the broken Pokemon Center | Pokemon Center rebuild site, PC terminal, crafting stations |
| Western Woods | Overgrown forest area with tall dead trees | Wood resources, Grass-type habitats, Roselia’s garden |
| Eastern Riverbed | Dried-up river and surrounding mudflats | Drilbur (farming unlock), Water-type habitat potential, mineral deposits |
| Northern Ruins | Crumbling buildings based on old Fuchsia City | Hidden passages, Poison-type Pokemon, lore items |
| Southern Meadow | Open grassland sloping toward the coast | Starter Pokemon habitats, flower patches, Eevee location |
The Central Plaza is your anchor point. Build your first structures here and expand outward as your Environment Level rises. The Pokemon Center ruin sits in the middle of the plaza — you will rebuild it once you hit Environment Level 3.
First Steps — What to Do When You Arrive
You land in the Withered Wasteland with nothing but your starter Pokemon and Ditto’s Inhale ability. Aquí está el priority order for your first hour:
1. Pick up everything in the Central Plaza. Use Inhale (hold Y) to vacuum up all the loose resources scattered around the ruins. You will grab Wood, Stone, Berries, and other basics that fuel your first crafts.
2. Talk to every Pokemon you see. Several Pokemon in the starting area have yellow chat bubbles with requests or tutorials. Chansey near the Pokemon Center ruin introduces the request system. Eevee south of the plaza starts the Lost Scarf escort quest.
3. Find Drilbur in the Eastern Riverbed. Head east from the plaza until you reach the dried-up riverbed. Drilbur is digging near a cluster of rocks. Talk to it to learn Rototiller, which unlocks the entire farming system. This is the most important early unlock in the game.
4. Set up your crafting station. Place a Crafting Bench in the Central Plaza. Surround it with Storage Boxes so the bench auto-pulls materials. This saves enormous time on every craft going forward.
5. Build your first habitat. Using the building system, create a simple enclosed habitat near the plaza. Place Honey inside to start attracting wild Pokemon. Even a basic 4x4 room with a roof counts.
For a deeper breakdown of crafting station setup and storage optimization, check nuestra building guide.
Important Request 1: Restore the Wasteland
This is the first Important Request and essentially the game’s extended tutorial. It activates automatically when you arrive in the Withered Wasteland.
Objective: Reach Environment Level 2 in the Withered Wasteland.
How to complete it:
- Build at least 3 habitats (enclosed rooms with appropriate decorations)
- Attract 5 Pokemon to live in your habitats
- Plant 10 trees or bushes to restore greenery
- Clear 20 debris blocks from the Central Plaza area
The game tracks all of these through the Environment Level meter. Once the combined effect of your habitats, Pokemon population, and landscape restoration pushes the meter to Level 2, the request completes automatically.
Reward: Full access to the building system (all basic materials unlock), 200 Life Coins, and the first Castform Weather Charm set (2 Charms).
The Castform Weather Charms you receive here are your introduction to the weather system. Nuestra weather guide explains exactly how to use them to trigger Rain Dance and Sunny Day.
Important Request 2: Rebuild Wasteland Pokemon Center
This is the first Pokemon Center rebuild in the game and serves as the template for the three that follow in other areas.
Objective: Rebuild the Pokemon Center in the Withered Wasteland.
Requirements:
- Environment Level 3 in the area
- At least 8 befriended Pokemon living in the Withered Wasteland
- 1000 Life Coins for the rebuilding kit
How to prepare:
Getting to Environment Level 3 requires more than what got you to Level 2. You need additional habitats, higher Comfort Levels on your existing Pokemon, and more landscape restoration. Focus on these three things:
- Build diverse habitats. Different Pokemon need different room types. A rocky cave habitat attracts different species than a forest clearing. Aim for at least 5 different habitat styles.
- Raise Comfort Levels. Play mini-games with your Pokemon (hide-and-seek, jump rope, quizzes), give them their preferred furniture, and feed them cooked meals. Each Comfort Level increase contributes to Environment Level.
- Restore the landscape. Plant trees, water dry patches, and clear every piece of debris you can find. Greenery restoration is the fastest way to push the meter.
For the 8 Pokemon requirement, make sure they are befriended (living in habitats), not just encountered. Wild Pokemon wandering through do not count.
Reward: Functional Pokemon Center with healing, PC shop (Packing Tips, PP Up, recipes), and access to the PC storage system. For details on maximizing your rebuilt center, see nuestra Pokemon Center rebuild guide.
Important Request 3: Wasteland Team Formation
This is the area’s final Important Request and the gate to the rest of the game.
Objective: Reach Environment Level 5 and complete the team formation tasks.
Requirements:
- Environment Level 5 in the Withered Wasteland
- Complete a series of area-specific sub-tasks (build a community hall, set up a weather station, establish a farm plot)
- Have at least 15 befriended Pokemon in the area
This is a significant jump from Level 3. Getting to Level 5 typically means having 15+ Pokemon with decent Comfort Levels, extensive landscape restoration, and well-built habitats across multiple zones.
The sub-tasks require:
- Community Hall: Build an enclosed structure of at least 8x10 blocks with seating furniture inside
- Weather Station: Set up your Castform Charms and trigger both Rain Dance and Sunny Day at least once
- Farm Plot: Have at least 20 tilled soil tiles with active crops growing
Reward: Access to Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges (both unlock simultaneously), 500 Life Coins, and the story moves forward toward the remaining areas.

Levels 6-10 are post-game content. You do not need them to progress the story, but completionists should target them for rare Pokemon, unique blueprints, and the 100% area badge. Nuestra Environment Level guide has the fastest strategies for pushing past Level 5.
Áreas Secretas y Secretos
The Withered Wasteland has three major hidden areas that many players miss on their first playthrough.
Waterfall Cave (Eastern Riverbed)
Behind the waterfall in the Eastern Riverbed is a hidden cave entrance. To access it, you need to restore water flow to the riverbed first (this happens naturally as your Environment Level rises past 2). Once the waterfall is flowing, walk behind it to find the entrance.
Inside the cave:
- 3 Crystal Shard deposits (used for Crystal Lamp recipe)
- A rare Sableye spawn point
- A chest containing the Waterfall Wall Blueprint (decorative block that mimics the waterfall appearance)
Secret Garden (Western Woods)
At Environment Level 4, a previously blocked path in the Western Woods opens up, revealing a hidden garden area. This is an enclosed natural space with pre-planted rare flowers and unique terrain.
Inside the garden:
- Rare Flower Seeds x10 (grows flowers not found anywhere else in the Withered Wasteland)
- A Shaymin habitat spot (one of the few locations where Shaymin can be attracted)
- An NPC who teaches the Bonsai Tree crafting recipe
Underground Passage (Northern Ruins)
At Environment Level 7 (post-game), a crack in the floor of the Northern Ruins becomes passable. This leads to an underground tunnel system that connects to a chamber beneath the old Fuchsia City gym.
Inside the passage:
- Poison-type Pokemon exclusive to this area (Grimer, Koffing, Nidoran)
- A mural referencing the original Fuchsia City gym leader
- The Toxic Orb decorative item (purely cosmetic, references the original games)
- Access to a mining area with high-density ore veins
Key Items in the Withered Wasteland
Several items found in this area are used throughout the rest of the game. Make sure you grab them all.
| Item | Ubicación | What It Does |
|---|---|---|
| Rototiller (from Drilbur) | Eastern Riverbed | Unlocks farming — till soil to plant seeds |
| Castform Weather Charms x2 | Important Request 1 reward | Control weather with Rain Dance and Sunny Day |
| Fishing Rod | Psyduck’s Pond Cleanup request reward | Enables fishing in any water feature |
| Night Vision Lantern | Hoothoot’s Night Watch request reward | See clearly at night without placing light blocks |
| Stone Bridge Blueprint | Machop’s Bridge Builder request reward | Build bridges in any area |
| Berry Basket | Chansey’s Berry Delivery request reward | Auto-harvest berries within a small radius |
The Rototiller and Castform Charms are the two most important. Farming feeds into cooking, which feeds into Pokemon Comfort, which feeds into Environment Level. The Charms unlock weather-exclusive Pokemon that are impossible to get otherwise.
Fuchsia City References and Lore
The Withered Wasteland is packed with callbacks to Fuchsia City from the original Pokemon Red and Blue. These do not affect gameplay but add flavor for longtime Pokemon fans.
- The Northern Ruins contain the shell of the old Fuchsia City gym, recognizable by its Poison-type theming
- The Safari Zone wall still stands in the eastern section, though the interior is overgrown
- A faded sign near the Central Plaza reads “Welcome to Fuchsia City” in the original game’s font
- The Warden’s House from the Safari Zone is a buildable blueprint you unlock at Environment Level 6
- Poison-type Pokemon like Grimer, Koffing, and Nidoran cluster in the Northern Ruins as a nod to the gym’s specialty
These details make the Withered Wasteland feel like a lived-in space with history, which adds motivation to restore it beyond just gameplay rewards.
Errores Comunes in the Withered Wasteland
Skipping Drilbur. Some players rush to build habitats and forget to head east for Drilbur. Without Rototiller, you cannot farm, which severely limits your food supply and delays cooking recipes.
Ignoring Comfort Levels. Building habitats gets Pokemon to move in, but their Comfort Level starts low. If you do not play mini-games, provide furniture, and feed them, your Environment Level stalls. Comfort is the hidden engine behind the meter.
Spreading too thin. The Withered Wasteland is big enough that building one habitat in each zone spreads your effort too thin early on. Focus on the Central Plaza and Southern Meadow first, then expand once your Environment Level hits 3.
Not restoring greenery. Planting trees and watering dry patches feels like busywork, but the Environment Level calculation weights landscape restoration heavily. A few hours of planting goes a long way.
Missing the weather tutorial. Castform’s Weather Test request is easy to overlook. Completing it not only teaches you the weather system but also gives you an extra Weather Charm — a valuable item for setting up dual weather zones later.
Moving On — What Comes After the Wasteland
Once you complete the Wasteland Team Formation request at Environment Level 5, both Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges unlock simultaneously. You can tackle them in either order, though Bleak Beach is slightly easier and introduces water-based gameplay that complements what you learned in the Withered Wasteland.
Before leaving, make sure you have:
- Rebuilt the Pokemon Center (access to the PC shop is critical for every area)
- Picked up the Fishing Rod from Psyduck’s request
- Collected both Castform Weather Charms from Important Request 1
- Set up a functional farm with at least 20 crop tiles
- Befriended at least 15 Pokemon for a solid Environment Level buffer
You can always come back to the Withered Wasteland later to finish remaining requests, find hidden areas, and push for Environment Levels 6-10. The area stays accessible throughout the entire game.
For tips that apply across all areas, nuestra tips and tricks guide covers advanced strategies that build on everything you learn in the Withered Wasteland.
