The short version: Palia is the clearest all-platform cozy recommendation: the developer confirms full cross-play and cross-progression among PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S when accounts are linked. Disney Dreamlight Valley supports online Valley Visits across platforms and added PlayStation cross-save in June 2025, with currency caveats. Grounded, Minecraft Bedrock, and My Time at Sandrock support cross-play in specific editions or combinations, but their save rules are different. Spiritfarer, Animal Crossing, and games whose official pages do not mention a platform matrix should not be advertised as cross-platform.
This guide was checked against official developer, publisher, Nintendo, PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam pages on 2026-08-26. It deliberately uses unknown when a primary source is silent. For a wider platform list, see the best cozy games by platform guide and the cozy-games hub.

Can these two devices play together?
Choose a game and both players' platforms. The answer separates cross-play from cross-save and treats missing official evidence as unknown.
Cross-save status:
Read the verified matrix ↓Three terms that are easy to mix up
Cross-play
Cross-play means two people can join the same multiplayer session while using different platforms. For example, Obsidian’s Grounded Fully Yoked update says players on Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Switch can play together. Cross-play says nothing by itself about where a solo save is stored.
Cross-save and cross-progression
Cross-save or cross-progression means an account, character, world, or progress can be used on another device. Palia’s official Steam announcement calls out cross-progression; Gameloft’s support article says Dreamlight Valley supports cross-progression but still requires a purchase on each platform. A cloud backup tied to one console family is not automatically cross-save.
Local and ordinary online multiplayer
Local co-op can mean split-screen or local wireless on the same platform family. Ordinary online multiplayer can connect players on the same platform without cross-play. Nintendo’s Stardew Valley Switch 2 listing, for example, confirms local split-screen and online player counts but does not, by itself, promise cross-platform sessions.

Games with both cross-play and cross-progression
Palia: link the account before you start
Palia has unusually direct wording. Its Steam launch announcement says Steam supports cross-play and cross-progression between all currently available platforms. The later console announcement names PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S and repeats that the game has full cross-play and cross-progression. This is a primary-source confirmation, not an inference from the game being free on several stores.
There is one practical catch: account linking. Palia’s support instructions explain that linking the Palia account enables play and progress across devices, while an unlinked Xbox or PlayStation profile can leave progress on the selected device. If a group is switching from Switch to Steam or from Xbox to PS5, link the account before investing hours in a house and inventory.
Dreamlight Valley: cross-save does not make every purchase portable
Gameloft says players on all platforms can visit each other’s Valleys through online multiplayer and participate in DreamSnaps together. A separate support update states that cross-save on PlayStation became available on June 18, 2025, allowing progress from other consoles to synchronise with a PlayStation account.
The currency article is the important fine print. Free Moonstones are shareable across platforms except PlayStation; purchased Moonstones are platform-specific. Gameloft also says content purchased on PlayStation remains PlayStation-only, even though the game and much of the progression are cross-save compatible. Call this “cross-play plus cross-progression with a purchase matrix,” not “everything follows the account.”
Cross-play confirmed, save status limited or edition-specific
Grounded: the Fully Yoked cross-play promise
Obsidian’s Fully Yoked update added PlayStation 4/5 and Nintendo Switch and says players across Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Switch can experience the game together with cross-play. The same update discusses switching saves while hosting a multiplayer session, but the official pages checked here do not publish a complete all-platform cross-save table for Grounded 1.
That distinction matters because Obsidian’s support site also has a cross-play and cross-progression FAQ for Grounded 2 on PC and Xbox. Grounded 2 is a different game. Do not copy its PC/Xbox progression claim into a Grounded 1 buying guide.
Minecraft: Bedrock is the cross-play edition
Mojang’s official matrix says Java cross-play covers Windows, Mac, and Linux, while Bedrock cross-play covers Windows 10/11, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and mobile. A Windows PC can have both editions in the unified launcher, but a Java player and a console Bedrock player are not automatically in one multiplayer pool.
Realms adds an important, narrower kind of persistence. Mojang says Realms supports cross-device play and syncs content across devices through a Microsoft account. That is strong evidence for a hosted Realm world and its account content. It is not a promise that every locally saved Java or Bedrock world can be opened interchangeably on every device, so describe it as Realm sync, not blanket cross-save.
Sandrock: broad cross-play, explicit save limits
The developer’s pinned multiplayer FAQ says Xbox supports cross-platform play with PC, PS5, and Switch. It also says multiplayer supports up to four players. The same FAQ is unusually helpful about saves: Steam and Epic saves cannot transfer to Xbox, while a PC Xbox Game Pass save and an Xbox console can sync progress when they use the same Microsoft account.
If your group only needs to join the same town, Sandrock can work across the confirmed combinations. If one person wants to move a Steam workshop campaign to Xbox, the answer from the developer is no. Those are not contradictory statements; they describe two different systems.
Stardew Valley: use the confirmed PC route only
The official Stardew site documents an invite-code route for Steam and GOG players on PC. The official 1.6 changelog also says PC multiplayer can reach eight and that players need the same build. Nintendo’s Switch 2 store page separately confirms online play for one to eight and local split-screen for one to four.
The sources checked here do not publish one complete table for PC-to-console or console-to-console cross-play and cross-save. Therefore this guide recommends the confirmed Steam↔GOG PC route, and labels other combinations unconfirmed instead of turning old forum reports into a promise.
Local or ordinary online co-op is still valuable
Cross-platform is convenient, but it is not the definition of a good cozy multiplayer session.
- Spiritfarer officially supports a second player as Daffodil the cat. The co-op is a lovely local way to share the boat and story; the official game page does not claim cross-play or cross-save.
- Stardew Valley on Switch 2 lists local split-screen for one to four, in addition to online play. Everyone can sit in the same room without needing a cross-platform account system.
- FANTASY LIFE i lists two-player Family Co-op and up to four online. Nintendo confirms the modes, but the page does not claim cross-play with another console family.
- Pokémon Pokopia lists local wireless for two to four and online play for one to four on Nintendo Switch 2. Its GameShare feature helps a visitor join a session, but it is still a Nintendo feature, not a PC/PlayStation/Xbox bridge.
When a store says “online co-op,” ask one more question: online with whom? Same-platform friends, same console family, or every platform? The source must answer that question before we mark cross-play confirmed.
A buying checklist that avoids save surprises
- Name the exact editions. Minecraft Java and Bedrock are different multiplayer pools. Stardew limits vary by platform. A Switch 2 Edition can have different player counts from a Switch edition.
- Create or link the publisher account first. Palia specifically warns that an unlinked console profile can keep progress device-only. Dreamlight Valley also relies on its account system for cross-progression.
- Separate ownership from progress. Dreamlight Valley says cross-progression is supported but requires a purchase on each platform. Cross-save never automatically grants another store’s license.
- Check currency and DLC. Dreamlight Moonstones and PlayStation content are not universally portable. Realms and marketplace content in Minecraft follow their own account and edition rules.
- Check the date and build. Stardew PC players need the same build. A patch can add or remove a platform feature, so use the current official support page.
- Treat silence as unknown. If the publisher says only “multiplayer,” do not rewrite it as “cross-play.” If it says “cloud save,” do not rewrite it as “cross-save.”
The most dependable mixed-platform choices in this list are Palia and Dreamlight Valley, followed by Grounded, Minecraft Bedrock, and the specific Sandrock combinations confirmed by the developer. For a gentler local session, Spiritfarer, Stardew, FANTASY LIFE i, and Pokopia are excellent without needing cross-play.
FAQ
Is cross-play the same as cross-save?
No. Cross-play lets people on different platforms share a multiplayer session. Cross-save or cross-progression carries an account, world, or progress between devices. One can exist without the other.
Which cozy game has the clearest cross-play and cross-progression?
Palia. Its official Steam and console announcements confirm full cross-play and cross-progression among PC, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, with account linking required for shared progress.
Does Disney Dreamlight Valley support cross-save on PlayStation?
Yes. Gameloft says PlayStation cross-save arrived June 18, 2025. Purchased Moonstones and PlayStation content can remain platform-specific, so not every purchase travels.
Does Grounded have cross-save on every platform?
The Fully Yoked update confirms cross-play across Xbox, PC, PlayStation, and Switch, but the sources checked here do not publish an all-platform Grounded 1 cross-save matrix. Grounded 2’s separate PC/Xbox FAQ is not evidence for Grounded 1.
Can Minecraft Java and Bedrock players play together?
Not as one generic pool. Java cross-play is listed for Windows, Mac, and Linux; Bedrock cross-play is listed for Windows 10/11, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, PS5, and mobile. Everyone needs the same edition.
Can My Time at Sandrock saves move between platforms?
Steam and Epic saves cannot transfer to Xbox, according to the developer FAQ. A PC Xbox Game Pass save and an Xbox console can sync under the same Microsoft account. Cross-play and save transfer are separate.
Does Stardew Valley have cross-play?
The official site documents Steam↔GOG invite-code play on PC. The checked sources do not confirm a complete matrix for every console pairing, so other combinations are unconfirmed.
What should I do when an official page does not mention cross-save?
Treat it as unknown. Check the exact edition, account requirements, and current support page instead of inferring cross-save from cloud saves, cross-play, or several storefront listings.
