Bleak Beach is Pokopia’s dark coastal restoration region, built over what used to be Vermilion City. Its real progression is about draining the settlement, rebuilding the Pokémon Center, restoring power, exploring the S.S. Anne, and raising the area to Environment Level 5. It is not unlocked by a documented percentage meter tied to Rocky Ridges, and there is no separate guardian requirement.

Where are you stuck?
Next action
Use the East Crop Valley gate
After Great Rank, follow the brick road through East Crop Valley (Drilbur's Valley). At the area gate, stand by the small Poké Ball scanner and press A. Rocky Ridges does not need to be finished first.
Next action
Buy the kit, then assemble all eight helpers
Reach Environment Level 3 and buy the Rebuild the Pokémon Center kit from the PC Shop. Bring the four material stacks plus one Build, one Water, one Bulldoze, and five additional helpers.
Next action
Power all three generators together
Keep the windmill, incinerator, and water wheel connected at the same time. Follow the yellow lights on utility poles, reconnect lamps, and power the charging station until all five lights glow and the score reaches 80.
Next action
Finish Brighten Things Up first
The ship request follows Brighten Things Up. Transform into Lapras to Swim across, or build a permanent bridge so Pokémon can move between the city and the ship.
Next action
Complete both parallel regional arcs
Finish the required Important Requests in Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges. Then use the area gate in Bleak Beach's East Dock to continue to Sparkling Skylands.

0 of 9 requirements ready
1. Unlock the road to Bleak Beach
After reaching Great Rank in Withered Wastelands, Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges are parallel objectives. Follow the brick road through East Crop Valley (Drilbur’s Valley) to the area gate, stand by the small Poké Ball scanner, and press A. You do not need to finish Rocky Ridges first.
The entrance is flooded. Follow Meowth’s sequence, repair the bridge and water flow, then fix the leak so the ruined settlement can function again.
2. Befriend Piplup and Lapras
These two Pokémon solve the region’s early traversal problems:
- Piplup: build the hydrated yellow-tall-grass scene. Piplup helps clean the mud and provides the Water specialty.
- Lapras: build a tropical seaside habitat. Lapras teaches Swim, letting you cross the coast and later reach the S.S. Anne.
Other opening clues point to Gloom, Farfetch’d, Mareep, Venomoth, Marill, Pawmi, Exeggcute, and Growlithe. The Bleak Beach Pokémon list separates these habitat hints from direct story encounters.
3. Rebuild the Bleak Beach Pokémon Center
Raise the area to Environment Level 3, then buy the Rebuild the Pokémon Center kit from the PC Shop and place it at the ruined Center.
Exact materials
- 10 Twine
- 30 Bricks
- 10 Sea Glass Fragments
- 5 Iron Ore
Helper team
- 1 Pokémon with Build
- 1 Pokémon with Water
- 1 Pokémon with Bulldoze
- 5 additional helpers
Once all eight helpers are assigned, the rebuild completes at the daily 5 AM reset. The specialists remain occupied while construction is active.
4. Complete “Brighten Things Up”
Talk to Trubbish around the lighthouse to begin Brighten Things Up. Restore the region’s power chain—windmill, incinerator, water wheel, utility poles, and connected lighting—then keep all three generators connected and add enough working light sources to reach 80 brightness points.
During this request:
- Peakychu reveals Illuminate.
- The restored network brightens the beach.
- Raikou arrives.
- Mosslax wakes.
The number shown by the request is the reliable target. Weather, fishing catches, or a lighthouse-cliff habitat are not part of this completion condition.
5. Explore the S.S. Anne
After Brighten Things Up, the S.S. Anne becomes available as a large mini-region. Reach it with Lapras and Swim, or construct a route over the water. Search the decks and rooms carefully; the ship contains materials, objects, and habitat tasks, including a dock-style scene connected to Azurill.
This is also the right moment to revisit PC hints unlocked at higher Environment Levels rather than looking for undocumented “secret tide” windows.
6. Reach Environment Level 5
Continue fulfilling habitat requests and improving the area until Bleak Beach reaches Environment Level 5. The local shop then adds the Washing Machine.
Bleak Beach and Rocky Ridges form the paired progression needed before the eastern dock route advances toward Sparkling Skylands.
Verified Bleak Beach resources
The location record lists ordinary gathering materials including Sturdy stick, Stone, Leaf, Squishy clay, Nonburnable garbage, Small log, Seashell, Twine, Sea glass fragments, Vine, Vine rope, Honey, Seaweed, and Leppa Berry. Use those names when planning builds; claims about special coastal currencies, exchange merchants, or underwater tide caves are not supported by the reviewed sources.
Map and “secret areas”
The important optional exploration spaces are the lighthouse surroundings, the restored settlement, the coastline, and the S.S. Anne. For a visual orientation aid, the community Bleak Beach map is useful, but it is a community map rather than an official Nintendo source.
